BRITISH SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS & OLYMPIC TRIALS 2004 - SHEFFIELD

George, having yesterday broken the Britsh Record with 59.72s in the heats of the Olympic Trials in Sheffield, went on to drive the record down further in the final today, taking Gold with an Olympic Qualifying time of 59.45s.

Until yesterday, no British lady swimmer had gone below 60s long course in the 100m Butterfly. In the heats, Rosalind Brett became the first lady to achieve this with 59.87s only to lose the title less than 2 minutes later in the next heat, when George provided her emphatic reply.

Georgie's opportunity to qualify for her main event (200m Butterfly) will have to wait until Sunday.

Following the success of her 100m Fly final, George swam (just two events later) into a 3rd place qualifying position for the 200m Freestyle Final on Friday, where she is hoping to qualify again for the ladies Commonwealth gold-medal winning relay team.
